BLog #23

1. Arana writes: "Isn't it time for the language to move on?" How do you feel about this? Why?

Its time for the language to move on because people should not be judged by their appearance. When I found out that Barack Obama was going to be our next president of the United States I was jumping around with my family. I was so happy that he had won because it was time for a change. By that I mean "Our First Black President" Before reading this article I thought of Obama as our new black president and how he was going to make a difference because his black, but some people thought the opposite. They thought that it wasn't right to have a black president because we had never had a black president ever . As we all know that back then black people were slaves and having a black person as a president would be just not right. After reading this article my thoughts changed. They changed because now I know that we should not judge people by their appearance.

One of the teachers asked me "what does it mean to call someone black?" I had to think for about it for like 10 minutes to figure our the answer and my answer was that its someone that had dark skin. I was wrong because its not only based on their color skin. For example Rodrigo he said that people sometimes think that he’s white but he’s not he is actually from El Salvador and that is someone discriminating him from his appearance. That is how Barack Obama was treated people saw him as the “Black President” but people did not add that he is half back and half white.

The "language" to me means the way we talk bad about other people that are different from us. For example Obama as our new president there are people out there that are racist. I think that in this article Arana is trying to send a message saying that the way that African Americans were treaded as slaves are stuck in the past and its time to make a change by not treading blacks like in the past, as if they don't matter. Thats why by having Barack Obama as a president is good change because we need to live in the present not the past.

H2O Project

What are you discovering so far?
something that I have discovered so far is that there are many organizations that help animals that have been affected with in our water here in San Diego. I think that is really cool that people actually like taking care of our animal. Another thing that I have discovered is that in Mexico there is a River that has been affecting our beech in Imperial beach because the river in Mexico has been treaded like if it was a trash and all of that if affecting our animals.

What surprises you about this project?
Something that surprises me about this project is that there is a lot of animals that need our help because of us not taking care of our beaches. Now that i know that it can affect our animals i have to extra careful and try not to trash our beaches and take care of them. Another thing that surprised me is that we are willing to use school hours to go interview people or do whatever we got to do outside of school and i though that was really nice for the teacher to do.

What re your next steps to have a cool product and a great piece of writing?
My next step is to interview people from different nature centers and talk about what they do to help the animals and how they try to clean the water. Another step I have to do is take pictures because I'm going to make a photo essay and write mini paragraphs about each picture.

Blog 1#9

As we all know that Barack Obama is our new president elect of the United Sates of America. If you wonder what race were the one that made Obama win? “Obama received more than 90 percent of the African-American vote and three-quarters of the Hispanic vote”1 I believe that this happed because people did not want to go through the same thing because McCain was trying to follow Bush’s steps. People were ready for an change that’s why most of African Americans and Hispanics voted for Obama. “The Americans have surprised themselves and the entire world when they voted for Barack Obama to become the first black president in the history of America. By electing Obama, the US has sent a message of hope and optimism to the entire world. The message was that change has come”2

examples of products

I choose this video because it’s a good example of how we want to make our video to look, professional and in good quality. In the video below it’s basically asking to help the animals that need to be rescued.

In our video we want to send a message similar to that. We need our beaches to be clean and provide more room for natural habitat. I also chose this video because it has really good editing and its professional looking and that can help us to make our video nice and neat. We are going to make our video as a documentary instead of just pictures like in the video you just watched.

This is another example i want to use because this is how my partner and i want to construct our video.I think this is going to be a really helpful video as an example even though it has nothing to do with our video what so ever we will obviously talk about our topic. I also liked how this was edited and has an example of a voiceover and uses pictures. We want to use that in our documentary.

H2O Project questions

Question 1: How does water qualities effect the animals onshore in Imperial Beach?

For this question I’m thinking to write about the affections on the animals onshore in Pacific Beach. I plan to give a list of animals that have had effect by the water quality. I also want to talk about the quality of the water that effects the animals.

Question 2: What can we do to help make Imperial beach clean for the animals?
For this questions I'm going to talk about the affections on the animals that live in Imperial beach. I also want to mention about programs that are trying to help the beach to make it cleaner and safer for the animals.

The ACORN and the vote-suppression scandal

The new scandal that is going on right now is called ACORN. ACORN is a group that stands for Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. There people that are trying to cheat by making “funny” names such as “Mickey Mouse” and use other peoples names and make fake votes. "ACORN, is under investigation by state and federal authorities for its voter registration drives" as mentioned in the Washington Times. This crisis is happening because of the bad times that the United States is going through. People are trying to make some money by cheating on the voting process. The people really want the right president to win and help them with this crisis that is going on right now that’s why they are doing what their doing to save their families."One of those voters, 19-year-old Freddie Johnson, told that he signed 73 voter registration forms over a five-month period." He didn't know what was going on so he just said yes to get his cigarettes and his cash because people need the money. Somehow people are trying to put a STOP to this ACORN before it grows even more.

Another thing that is going on is that the "Lone Star Project has detailed how Texas Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott uses his official office to market and carry out a phony “epidemic of voter fraud” initiative. Abbott has selectively harassed and prosecuted Democrats, nearly all minorities and senior citizens, for simply assisting elderly and disabled voters deliver sealed ballots to an elections office or postal facility" as mentioned in the Major Texas newspapers Blast Abbott. So now all the minors and the senior citizens are going to have to verify their information if they don't reply they will not count their votes in. The making if fake people is not the only reason that the government can take your right to vote the own people that does your application can sometimes mess up by putting the wrong information like your address street. If they decide to contact that person back and they dont respond they can take their right to vote. In 2000 "Florida found more than 65,000 ineligible and duplicate voters on Florida’s registration rolls" as mentioned in the ajc website. In that 65,000 people there were 600 people that were dead and had "voted" I don't know how they would vote if their dead but they did (haha). There are also criminals that want to vote "In Florida, felons can vote only after their rights have been restored through clemency. The newspaper found the state checks felons’ criminal histories and clemency status only after they register and had a backlog of 108,000 still to be reviewed" Not all people agree that those people that committed a crime should have the right to vote. “We have 100 percent convicted felons who are also sex offenders, so nobody should be eligible,” said Timothy Budz, center administrator."

newspaper reflection

Describe something specific that you contributed to the final product that you like?
something that i did specifically contributed on this project is the Abraham Lincoln's view of the Kansas Nebraska Act. I also wrote the Kansas's Nebraska Act picture caption. Vanessa and I added two more extra pictures with a caption.
Describe something specific that you contributed to the final product that you would like to improve?
I would probably the view of Abraham Lincoln try to add more information about his views. I would of probably talk about his pros and cons. I really liked this project because it was something different and fun.

underground idol

Warhol was a revolutionary leader in our world today. From his views on pornography to his amazing eye catching art , he had changed the world of underground art for the ages. He was a “silent and mysterious spirit “ according to Betsey Johnson and a “Perve” according to Patti D’ Arbanville. Many famous artist and designers look up to him today. Marc Jacobs is a huge fan of his works and at times is called “The Next Warhol” but even Jacobs knows he can’t compare. Warhol made it okay to be different and normal to be strange, people were drawn to him because of that. He acted as a pagan( not believe in higher power) to some, but an oracle(God) to most . He is one of the most artistic people in the world. The excitement in the people’s eyes made him strive for perfection. He is a leader in the art industry today and an idol in my eyes.

kansas-nebraska act

Senator Abraham Lincoln and Senator Stephan a. Douglas had many disagreements in the 7th presidential debate one of them regarding the Kansas- Nebraska act. The Kansas-Nebraska act is to determine whether or not the people of Kansas and Nebraska have the choice of allowing slavery within their borders. This act was proposed by Douglas himself.

Douglas believed in the right of free choice and that they had the ability of deciding their own policy regarding slavery. "It is the true intent and meaning of this act not to legislate slavery into any State or Territory or to exclude it there from, but to leave the people thereof perfectly free to form and regulate their domestic institutions in their own way, subject only to the Federal Constitution." -Douglas

Senator Lincoln views of the Kansas Nebraska Act are the complete opposite. Lincoln believed that slavery should be abolished all together. “All men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, DERIVING THEIR JUST POWERS FROM THE CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED.”- Lincoln

Demographic

The only have two question  regarding demographics, How do they know that the information is right? and were do they get it from?

I believe that people will vote for Obama because of the proposition that he made to the Americans to provide affordable healthcare. I hope that he keeps he promises and make America improve on that. As I read Stephanie's blog I noticed that we have different view of this same topic. I disagree with her because she says that she doesn't agree with people getting healthcare. She thinks that the president cant pay for everybody and thats were i disagree with her.

The Past and the Present

Date: 10-02-08

The  Political Parties have a very interesting history. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were the first to find the Democratic-Republican Party in 1792. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison created the party in order to oppose the economic foreign policies of the Federalist Party. For example, the Federalist, wanted to take the power over the government while the Democratic-Republican limit power of the government through constitution. The
Democratic-Republican party was all about the promotion of states rights and the primacy of the bankers, in the industrialist, and merchants.

In 1825 the democratic-Republican had split onto two, the Democratic and the Republicans. They decided to split up because in 1825 the new president was chosen of the United States, which was John Quincy. Since he got chosen things didn't go well. Many people were disagreeing among the Democratic- Republican and thats what cause them to split up. When the split up into competing factions it became the "Modern-day Democratic Party"

The parties now are so much different form the ones back then. They are different in a way that back then  the party was very  against taxes comparing it to now. Now that we are close to who our president is going to be many people that i know are paying attention at the taxes part. I know that if John MCcain wins the presidency  he will change my life because if he's following Bush's steps he will keep the taxes rolling. Now that I'm big enough to work i will be getting payed and will get money taken away for the taxes and i will be making less money.

I personally think that the people from the parties in the 1800's will totally disagree with what is going on today because of the different believes. For example the taxes, as i mentioned earlier, were not that big back then if comparing it to today that they are a big deal now. I the people from the party during the 1800's came to life again and were to reunite with the ones today i think we would have a HUGE problem.

Marbury vs. Madison

Title: Marbury vs. Madison
Date: September, 30 2008
By: Melvin I. Urofsky

This case was decided in 1803 by the U.S. Supreme Court. William Marbury had been commissioned justice of the peace in the District of Columbia by President John Adams in the “midnight appointments” "One of the first acts of the new administration was to repeal the Judiciary Act of 1800, which had created a number of new judgeships. Although President Adams had attempted to fill the vacancies prior to the end of his term, a number of commissions had not been delivered, and one of the appointees, William Marbury, sued Secretary of State James Madison to force him to deliver his commission as a justice of the peace."
The effect of this case was that it began with the changing of presidential administrations. This particular election would in effect would be the first change of political power.

Blog reflection

By: Yaya

What are you most proud of on your blog? Why?

something I'm proud of is that i actually did my work on time and that i completed my work. I'm also proud of the writing that I did because I am not use to writing things and connect it to an article. Now i know how to do it I can get better and actually use that for all my writing in the future.
What would you like to improve on your blog? Why? How?
Something i will improve on in the future is my writing part, because i didn't really write as much. I will also improve on my spelling. I will try and use bigger words to sound more professional.
How can we better connect our class' blogs?
I can probably connect it to the class blogs by reading more of my classmates blogs and try to kind of agree or disagree toward what they are taking about. I can also connect it by reading more about their article and try to add more to what they are trying to say.

Constitutional Crisis

by: Martin Khor
Date: 9-17 -2008

This article talks about how George W. Bush secretly approved orders for the first time to allow the US special forces to carry out ground assaults inside Pakistan without the prior approval of the Pakistani government. The US has also increased missile attacks launched from helicopters at Pakistan villages suspected to house terrorists but the UN Security Council and the Human Rights Council would surely join in the condemnation and be prepared to take action. This should not be George W. Bush's job because he is not part of the  congress. He is part of  the executive branch,  and to declare war you need to be part of the congress.

Declaration of Independence current event

Article:President Bush's Bad Reputation
Author: Jim Axelrod
Date: September, 15 2008

I chose this article to compare it to the Declaration because in the first page it talks about how the king of Great Britain is an absolute tyrant over Great Britain and how the state is exposed to all dangers of invasions. In the article it talks about how George W. Bush just want to look good by going to other parts of the world to help out poor people and how he goes to Southeast Asia and  tries very hard to win over his hosts. He played native instruments, watched native dancers and even tried on native clothes. It also talks about how he has sent a  lot of people to war and has killed them by sending them over there. This to people show a great example of how people with great power destroy the world.

Human Rights

Title: 9/11 Seven Years Later: Civil, Human Rights Needed for All
Author: Lynda Lin
Date: September, 11 2008

This article is about a 40-year-old former Muslim Army that spent less than a year in the U.S. detention center Yee was accused for both a minister to the prisoners and an accused terrorist spy. Five years have past and Yee, a West Point graduate and third generation Chinese American, was arrested Sept. 10, 2003, and accused of espionage by his own government. Yee has written a book about his ordeal, traveled all over the U.S. to lecture about human rights abuses, and recently helped nominate a Democratic presidential candidate as a delegate in Denver. I chose this Article because it talks about human rights and that happened to him for not following the rules.

Federalist and the Anti- Federalist

Title: What Would Alexander Hamilton Think of Today's Market
Author: Brian A. Davis
Date: September, 9 2008

The Federalists were those who supported the ratification of the Constitution and the creation of a stronger centralized government. The Anti-Federalist movement was essentially those who opposed to ratification of the Constitution.

Today many people are struggle ling with the bills because of the Federal backstoping at the tax payer's expense. The largest debtor nation in history to pay the bills may decide to invest somewhere else. Malfeasance and moral hazzard be darned. And I am certain that the Anti-Federalist Jefferson is turning over in his grave!

The conflict between the Federalists and anti-Federalists.

Enlightenment

Title: Africa: Barack Obama, Black Agency, and the Burden of History
Author: Pius Adesanmi
Date: September, 4 2008

This article talks about the timeline of black agency that has been determined to a great extent in the last six centuries by the need to overcome man-made historical impediments, notably slavery, racism, and colonialism. It is a big deal that Obama is running for president because he will be the first black president.

This article relates to the Enlightment because by Obama running he's characterized by believing in the power of humans reasons in political way. Obama can help by giving better rights to common people.

Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness.

Title:Palin Daughter’s Pregnancy Interrupts G.O.P. Convention Script.
Author:Monica Davey
Date: September, 4 2008

The article a read is about Sarah Palin announcing America about her daughter’s pregnancy. After this big news people now know about her personal life as a mother. Maryville said Sarah Palin and his husband announced that they were really proud that they are going to be grandparents and that her daughter and the guy were going to get married. This article also said that Ms. Palin had not actually given birth to Trig( her 4 month son) but they found some photographs of Ms. Palin in the months leading up to his birth this year. The McCain campaign said Ms. Palin announced Bristol’s pregnancy to stop the swirl of rumors.

This article related to Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness because it relates to the human rights. Like for this article Sarah Palin’s announcement about her daughter getting pregnant at the age of 17 is not a problem at all. In America teens are allowed to get pregnant at whatever age the want and give birth. People were asking themselves if she was going to keep the baby because of her age and she said that she will keep the baby and Sarah Palin is pound of her decision.
